Got carrots?

About 15 years ago, a patient walked into the dental office I was working at with an orange t-shirt that read, “Got carrots?” My first thought was, “Maybe she owns horses!” I asked her about it, and she said she was following the “Hallelujah Diet.”

Being a Christian, I was intrigued and asked her more. She shared that she ate about 85% raw food and 15% cooked plant food, and the premise was that you eat the food that God created for us to eat. She was also juicing lots of carrots. She said she felt better than ever and was symptom-free from a serious health issue she had been struggling with for years. She mentioned her family was also changing some of their habits, and the results were amazing. She said her mission was to tell as many people as possible, hence the bright orange t-shirt!

I was intrigued!

I couldn’t wait to go home and start researching what this way of eating was all about. I bought a juicer and even started sprouting broccoli seeds! I was well on my way to becoming a health nut!

Shortly after learning all this, someone close to me got colon cancer. I stepped up the research and found another whole world of healing from scary things like the “C” word and many other diseases and chronic illnesses just by changing diet and lifestyle habits. My eyes were opened like never before, and I was astonished that this info wasn't on every billboard and every evening news show.

Alas, big Pharma, the meat industry, the processed food industry, and the dairy industry are powerful and lucrative businesses. They make sure they stay that way.

 

My own health journey…

Although health and learning have been interests of mine since that day 15 years ago, it wasn’t until April 2018 that I became really serious about my health. I had found a lump, and it wasn’t going away. I will never know precisely what it was because I chose not to go the traditional route and instead embraced health like I never had.

Many years ago, I learned what was possible in healing naturally and was willing to try it. I went completely raw plant-based pretty much overnight. Luckily, by this time, there were endless resources on the internet and more info than I could read on how to go about all of this the right way. Chris Wark from chrisbeatcancer.com was, and is, a wealth of information, and I binge-watched every single video he had made.

I gave myself a six-month time limit before I sought other treatment. Within one week, the arthritis-like pain in my hip and the excruciating pain in my left thumb (that had me thinking I would need carpal tunnel surgery someday soon) had disappeared. At the two-week mark, the anxiety that perplexed me, but plagued me nonetheless, was almost non-existent. I noticed my energy was through the roof, and I was dropping pounds like nobody’s business. My lifelong asthma wasn’t flaring up anymore! I experienced many other positive changes as time passed, and at the four-month mark, I could no longer feel the lump.

I am not encouraging anyone to go this route or not to seek medical care immediately if you feel it is necessary. I am just relaying my experience.

Being outside in nature with my husband is one of my favorite things. In 2022 we decided to take hiking a step further and become backpackers. It’s been a lifelong desire of mine, but it always seemed out of reach, as it is no small feat to carry a heavy backpack up a mountain for miles at a time! My husband and I are both in our 50s and in the best shape we have ever been, all powered by plants! We decided to go big for our first trip in April 2022 and summited Mt. San Gorgonio, the tallest mountain in Southern California, standing at 11,503 ft! The feeling of joy and accomplishment was beyond words. It's worth any perceived “sacrifices” we have made thus far to get there!

Even after all these years, I am still enamored with this plant-based diet and lifestyle and am beyond grateful to God to have found it!
